Halloween Green Monster Pear-Cucumber Cooler for Kids
This Green Monster Pear-Cucumber Cooler blends 250 g cored ripe pear, 100 g cucumber and cold water into two small pale green Halloween drinks. Strain, pour over ice and curl cucumber ribbons inside the glasses.
The Green Monster Pear-Cucumber Cooler turns fresh fruit and cucumber into two small, pale green Halloween drinks for kids. Long cucumber ribbons curl inside the glasses like friendly monster tentacles. The drink is lightly sweet from ripe pears, still rather than fizzy, and contains no alcohol, extracts or bitters.

How to make it
- An adult washes the pears and cucumber. Remove the pear stems and cores completely, then weigh the amount of pear flesh listed above and chop it.
- Use a vegetable peeler to cut one long, thin cucumber ribbon per serving and set them aside. Chop and weigh the listed amount of the remaining cucumber, keeping its green skin on.
- Put the measured pear, chopped cucumber and the measured cold water in a blender. Secure the lid and blend for about 30 seconds until smooth. Add 1 tablespoon more water only if the blender struggles.
- Set a fine-mesh sieve over a jug. Pour in the blended mixture and press gently with the back of a spoon to collect the juice. Discard the pulp left in the sieve.
- Curl one cucumber ribbon inside each small glass, then add a few ice cubes. Stir the strained juice, and divide it evenly between the glasses.
- Serve straight away, before the pear juice darkens. An adult handles the knife, peeler and blender; remove the ribbon before serving younger children.
Recipe notes
Use soft, sweet ripe pears. Add cold water 1 tablespoon at a time if needed to blend, or 1 tablespoon per glass if the strained cooler is too strong. No alcohol, extracts or bitters.
Calories use the measured ingredients before straining, divided by two; discarded pulp can lower the served calories.

Something wrong or not matching?
Choose soft, sweet ripe pears: unripe fruit makes the drink watery and less sweet. If the blender needs help, add 1 tablespoon more cold water at a time. If the finished drink tastes too strong or thick, add 1 tablespoon cold water to each glass and stir. An adult handles the knife, peeler and blender; remove the ribbon before serving younger children.
This fresh, lightly vegetal cooler has a different flavor and texture from the Midnight Plum Grape Slush, the Jack-o'-Lantern Orange Fizz and the Ghost Milkshake. Keep its glasses and utensils separate from the adult Graveyard Irish Cream Hot Chocolate at a mixed party. See the Halloween drinks collection for more ideas.
Calories are an estimate from the measured fruit and cucumber before straining, divided between two drinks. Some pulp is discarded, so the served drink may contain fewer calories. Alcohol content is 0%.
