This Halloween Poison Apple Cider Mule combines 2 oz dark rum, 3 oz cloudy apple cider, 1/2 oz lime juice and 2 oz ginger beer. Build it over ice in five minutes and garnish with a fan of red apple slices. Makes one cocktail.
This Halloween Poison Apple Cider Mule gets its autumn flavor from cloudy apple cider, dark rum and ginger beer. Lime keeps the apple from tasting flat. The red apple fan gives it a storybook poison-apple look without dye, smoke or special equipment. It makes one tall drink.

How to make it
- Fill a tall glass with ice. Add the dark rum, apple cider and lime juice; stir for about five seconds.
- Pour in the chilled ginger beer and stir gently once so it stays fizzy.
- Cut three thin slices from a red apple and tuck them together against the rim, skin facing out. Add the cinnamon stick if using. Serve at once.
Recipe notes
Use unfermented apple cider or cloudy apple juice, not hard cider. Check ginger beer labels if its alcohol content matters. Add bubbles and cut apple slices immediately before serving.

Is the apple cider alcoholic?
Not in this recipe. In some places “cider” means an alcoholic drink; this recipe uses unfermented apple cider or cloudy apple juice. Ginger beer is usually a soft drink, but some versions contain alcohol, so check both labels. The rum makes this an adult cocktail regardless.
Can I make it ahead for a party?
Chill the cider and ginger beer ahead of time and measure the rum, cider and lime into glasses shortly before serving. Add ice, ginger beer and fresh apple slices last; the apple browns if cut too early.
