Halloween Blackberry Witch Fizz

Jump to Recipe

This Halloween blackberry witch fizz gets its deep purple color from muddled berries. Ginger beer makes it lively and a rosemary sprig gives the glass a little haunted-forest character. The recipe makes one drink; build a tray of glasses by muddling berries and lemon in each, then add the ginger beer just before serving.

Blackberry witch fizz with rosemary and blackberries in a highball glass

Ingredients

  • 5 ripe blackberries, plus 2 for garnish
  • 2 oz gin
  • 3/4 oz fresh lemon juice
  • 1/2 oz simple syrup
  • 3 oz chilled ginger beer
  • Ice and 1 rosemary sprig

How to make it

  1. Muddle five blackberries with the lemon juice and syrup in a shaker. Add gin and ice, then shake for 10 seconds.
  2. Double-strain into an ice-filled highball glass if you prefer a clear finish; leave the seeds in for a more rustic look.
  3. Top slowly with ginger beer and stir once. Garnish with two blackberries and rosemary.

Taste before topping up: blackberries vary in sweetness. Add a little more syrup for tart fruit. Ginger beer is usually nonalcoholic, but check the label if that matters to your guests.

For a mocktail, replace the gin with 2 oz chilled sparkling water and keep the ginger beer. If making drinks for a group, muddle the berries and mix the gin, lemon and syrup ahead; refrigerate and add ice and bubbles to each glass at serving time. For another striking party drink, see the red rum punch.
