Halloween Graveyard Irish Coffee
This Halloween Graveyard Irish Coffee is a hot, spirit-forward coffee drink rather than another chilled fruit cocktail. Irish whiskey and brown sugar sit beneath a cool layer of softly whipped cream, while a small parchment stencil makes the cocoa cemetery gate.

How to make it
- Fold a clean 3-inch square of parchment paper in half. Cut a simple gate shape with wide openings, unfold it and set the stencil aside.
- Fill the heatproof glass with hot tap water and let it stand for 2 minutes while the coffee brews.
- Pour the water out and dry the glass. Measure the brown sugar into the warmed glass.
- Measure 4 oz of freshly brewed hot black coffee and pour it over the sugar. Stir for 15 seconds, until the sugar dissolves.
- Measure the Irish whiskey, pour it into the sweetened coffee and stir once to combine.
- Put the measured cold heavy cream in a small chilled bowl. Whisk for 20–30 seconds, until slightly thickened but still pourable; do not whip it to peaks.
- Hold the back of a teaspoon just above the coffee with its tip touching the inside of the glass. Slowly pour the cream over the spoon so it floats in a separate layer.
- Let the cream settle for 20 seconds. Hold the parchment stencil about 1/2 inch above the cream.
- Put the measured cocoa powder in a fine-mesh sieve and tap it lightly over the stencil, then lift the stencil straight up.
- Serve immediately without stirring, so the hot whiskey coffee is sipped through the cool cream. Discard the used stencil.

Keep the cream layer floating
The cream should be cold and only lightly thickened. Pouring it slowly over the back of a spoon keeps it above the hot coffee. If it sinks, the cream was too warm, too thin or poured too quickly. Use a heatproof glass and leave room at the rim.
The displayed strength assumes 40% ABV Irish whiskey. For another whiskey-based Halloween drink with a chilled, bitter profile, see the Blood Moon Rye Boulevardier. The alcohol-free companion is the Crimson Beet Shrub Soda. Browse Halloween cocktails.
The estimate counts the whiskey, coffee, brown sugar, cream and cocoa. The parchment stencil is not edible and adds no calories. Nothing is strained or discarded from the drink.
