Halloween Spiderweb Raspberry Yogurt Smoothie for Kids

These Spiderweb Raspberry Yogurt Smoothies are cold, tangy Halloween drinks for children with an edible white web on each pink surface. Frozen raspberries make the mixture thick enough to decorate; plain yogurt makes the web without whipped cream, candy eyes or food coloring. There is no alcohol, flavoring extract or bitters.

How to make it

  1. Measure the yogurt using the ingredient list above. For every two servings, reserve 2 teaspoons of it in a small bowl for the web topping; put the remaining yogurt in the blender.
  2. Add the measured cold milk and sugar to the blender. Blend briefly to dissolve the sugar into the yogurt mixture.
  3. Add the frozen raspberries. Put the lid on firmly and blend for 30 to 60 seconds, stopping to scrape down the sides with the machine switched off if needed. Blend until evenly pink and spoonably thick, with no large frozen lumps. Do not strain out the raspberry seeds.
  4. Divide the smoothie evenly between one wide 8 to 10 oz cup per serving, leaving about 1/2 inch below the rim. Gently level the surfaces with the back of a spoon.
  5. Spoon the reserved plain yogurt into a small food-safe piping bag, or the corner of a clean food-storage bag. An adult snips a very small opening, about 2 mm wide.
  6. On each smoothie, pipe a small yogurt dot in the center and two thin concentric rings around it. Divide the reserved yogurt between the cups; avoid making a thick layer across the whole surface.
  7. Using a clean toothpick, draw six short lines from the center outward through both rings to form a spiderweb. Wipe the toothpick between strokes. An adult removes and discards the toothpick before serving.
  8. Serve immediately with spoons while the smoothies are cold and the webs hold their shape. Keep any spare smoothie refrigerated until serving and add its web at the last moment.

Keep the web on the surface

Use ordinary plain whole-milk yogurt, not a drinkable yogurt. Reserve the topping before blending so it stays white. The berries should be frozen: fresh berries make a looser drink, and the web may sink. If your blender struggles, let the frozen berries sit for 5 minutes before blending again; avoid adding a large splash of milk, which thins the surface.

The raspberry seeds stay in this recipe. It is a spoonable smoothie rather than a strained juice. Taste the blended base before pouring; for a sweeter next batch, add another teaspoon of sugar and blend again. That changes the calorie estimate.

Let children help pipe rings or choose how many spokes their webs have. An adult handles the blender, scissors and toothpick, and removes the toothpick before the cups are handed over. A small central dot and two rings are enough; too much yogurt will hide the pink background.

For a different alcohol-free texture, try the Midnight Plum-Grape Slush. A warmer option is Bat-Wing Rooibos Tea. Adults can have the separate Vampire Ruby Port and Tonic. Keep the two drinks on separate trays.

Use plain yogurt and unsweetened raspberries; all ingredients are alcohol-free, with no extracts or bitters. Frozen berries make the web hold better than fresh berries. Calories count all listed ingredients, including the reserved yogurt topping; no seeds or pulp are discarded. Strength is 0% ABV.
