Halloween Hibiscus Ice-Hand Punch for Kids
This Hibiscus Ice-Hand Punch is a fizzy, entirely alcohol-free Halloween drink for children. Hibiscus tea and cranberry juice create the ruby color, while a hand frozen from plain water becomes the spooky centerpiece. There is no dry ice, candy, extract or bitters.

How to make it
- An adult sets a clean, food-grade silicone hand mold on a small tray so it stays level. Measure the cold water and pour it into the mold, stopping about 1/4 inch below the rim. If the mold is smaller, fill it to that level and freeze the remaining measured water as ordinary ice cubes.
- Carry the tray to the freezer and freeze for at least 6 hours, or overnight, until the hand is solid all the way through.
- At least 35 minutes before serving, put the hibiscus tea bags in a heatproof 1-quart jug. An adult pours the freshly boiled water over them and steeps for 5 minutes.
- Lift out and discard the tea bags without squeezing them. Add the granulated sugar to the hot tea and stir until no crystals remain.
- Let the sweetened tea cool for 5 minutes, then refrigerate it for 25 minutes, or until cold. Keep the cranberry juice cocktail and sparkling water refrigerated too.
- Just before serving, an adult pours the chilled hibiscus tea into a clear 3-quart punch bowl.
- Add the measured chilled cranberry juice cocktail and stir slowly until the color is even.
- Pour in the measured chilled sparkling water and stir once, gently, to preserve the bubbles.
- Take the frozen hand from the freezer. If it sticks, run cool—not hot—water over the outside of the silicone mold for 5–10 seconds. Peel the mold away from the ice; do not pull on the fingers.
- An adult lowers the frozen hand gently into the punch with both hands. Add any separately frozen water cubes to the bowl.
- Ladle the punch into six cups, about 1 cup per serving, and serve immediately. An adult must handle the boiling water, full punch bowl and unmolding; supervise children around the hard ice centerpiece.

Make the frozen hand safely
Use a reusable silicone mold sold for food or ice, and wash it before filling. Do not use a disposable glove: glove materials are not necessarily intended as food molds, and removing them cleanly from the fingers is difficult. Freezing the mold on a tray prevents spills and supports the wrist area.
The water in the hand is part of the measured recipe. As it melts, it chills and gently dilutes the punch. A smaller mold is fine—freeze the unused measured water in a regular ice tray and add those cubes with the hand. Avoid hot water during unmolding because a sudden temperature change can crack the fingers.
Check both the tea bags and cranberry juice cocktail labels for an alcohol-free ingredient list. This recipe contains no kombucha, bitters or flavoring extracts. The estimate counts the granulated sugar and cranberry juice cocktail. Tea, sparkling water and the hand-shaped ice add no calories. The drink is 0.0% ABV.
