Halloween Ghost Nigori Sake Highball
This Ghost Nigori Sake Highball uses naturally cloudy sake for its pale, misty appearance. Ginger syrup adds warmth, chilled soda lightens the texture, and a small bat cut from crisp roasted nori makes an edible black garnish without dry ice, smoke or food coloring.

How to make it
- Put one 10–12 oz highball glass per serving in the freezer for 5 minutes. Keep the nigori sake and club soda refrigerated.
- For each serving, use clean, dry kitchen scissors to cut the measured nori into a simple 2-inch bat with a narrow body and two broad wings.
- Pierce the nori bat through its body with one cocktail pick. Set it in a dry place; the pick will rest across the rim so the nori stays above the liquid.
- Check the nigori label for its mixing directions. If sediment has settled and the bottle is not sparkling, gently roll the closed bottle between your palms to redistribute it; do not shake a pressurized or sparkling bottle.
- Remove the highball glass or glasses from the freezer. Build each serving separately: fill every glass with its share of the measured ice.
- Pour each serving's share of the measured ginger syrup over the ice.
- Pour each serving's share of the chilled nigori sake into its glass.
- Stir each drink for 5 seconds, reaching the spoon to the bottom so the syrup disperses through the sake.
- Pour each serving's share of the chilled club soda slowly down the inside of its glass. Stir once gently to combine without flattening the bubbles.
- Rest one prepared bat pick across each rim, keeping the nori dry above the drink, and serve immediately. Remove the pick before drinking; the roasted nori is edible and may be eaten separately.

Choose and handle nigori sake
Nigori sake contains fine rice solids that give it a naturally cloudy look and fuller texture. Choose a pourable bottle labeled around 15% ABV, chill it thoroughly and follow its label before redistributing settled sediment. Some bottles are sparkling or retain pressure and must never be shaken.
Use a ginger syrup intended for drinks rather than thick dessert sauce. The recipe is lightly sweet; if your nigori is especially sweet, start with 1/4 oz syrup. That adjustment lowers the displayed calorie estimate because the calculator uses the full 1/2 oz listed above.

The estimate counts the nigori sake, ginger syrup and club soda. Ice adds no calories. It excludes the small nori garnish. It assumes 15% ABV nigori at about 116 kcal per 100 ml; brands vary in sweetness, calories and strength.
